The English midfielder announced his intentions Wednesday after playing in Milan's 2-2 tie at Glasgow Rangers. Beckham has played well with the Italian club during his three-month loan, which is up March 8.

"At the moment my lawyers are not talking to the Galaxy," Beckham said. "But I have expressed my desire to stay at AC Milan now, and it's just down to Milan and Galaxy to come to an agreement."

"I have enjoyed my time here," he added. "I knew I would enjoy it but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I have and do as well as I have."

Beckham is about two years into a $32.5 million, five-year contract with Major League Soccer. The Galaxy had no immediate comment.

"At this point it's out of my hands," the 33-year-old star said. "I've said what my feelings are to both clubs."

Since coming to Italy, Beckham has scored twice and helped to lift Milan to second place in the Serie A standings.

"At the moment I'm still a Galaxy player," he said. "I respect the Galaxy and everything they have done for me. They have always been great to me."

Beckham wants to maintain his place on the England national team and play at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Before joining AC Milan, he said playing in Italy would allow him to stay in shape.

"To be given the chance again to play at this level at my age is pretty incredible and I've enjoyed it so much I would like to continue it," he said. "I think people have seen the way I've been since playing at this level again."

"It's nothing against the MLS and the football over there because it's a game that will grow, but it will take quite a few years," he added. "I'm still confident that will happen eventually, but I want to have a chance of being involved in 2010 and I believe my best chance of doing so is to remain here."

Liverpool beats Chelsea 2-0 to cut Man United lead

LONDON – Fernando Torres scored twice in the last two minutes to revive Liverpool's Premier League title hopes with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, cutting Manchester United's lead to two points.

The game appeared headed for a draw when Torres glanced home a cross by Fabio Aurelio in the 89th minute. His second goal a minute later was a tap-in after Chelsea defender Ashley Cole lost the ball inside the penalty area.

The victory enabled Liverpool to leapfrog Chelsea into second place. The Reds are two points behind Man United, which edged Everton 1-0 on Saturday but has a game in hand on both rivals. Man United has 53 points from 23 games, Liverpool has 51 from 24 and Chelsea 48 from 24.

Chelsea played the last 30 minutes with 10 men after Frank Lampard was ejected for a sliding tackle on Xabi Alonso. In a game littered with fouls, referee Mike Riley also called fouls on four Liverpool and three Chelsea players.

After four straight league and cup draws dropped Liverpool from first to third, the victory took some pressure off coach Rafa Benitez.

In Sunday's other game, Newcastle drew 1-1 with neighbor Sunderland to climb two places further from the relegation zone but still only a point ahead of those in deeper trouble.

Kaka looking for peace and quiet

MILAN, Italy – Brazilian star Kaka is looking forward to returning to work with AC Milan this weekend after his proposed world record move to Manchester City was called off on Monday.

The attacking midfielder found himself hogging the headlines for a week as details emerged of the bid from mega-rich City.

But now that all that is behind him, the 26-year-old wants to get back to doing what he does best - playing football.

With an important Serie A match at Bologna on Sunday to come as Milan try to close down the six-point deficit they have to champions, leaders and bitter city rivals Inter Milan, focus is vital.

And Kaka no longer wants to talk about the trasfer saga that almost turned his world upside down.

"I'm sorry but after all this palaver I have to work," he said at his club's training ground when asked about the transfer saga.

No sooner had his proposed move to City fallen through but rumours sprung up that Kaka wants to join Real Madrid.

"I can't talk about the transfer market and even less so about Real Madrid," he told a Spanish journalist.

This unwelcome distraction may not yet quite have calmed down but injured Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso believes it may even work in his team's favour.

"Kaka staying has given the team incredible enthusiasm," he said. "It's the proof that the president (Silvio) Berlusconi believes in Milan and wants Milan to remain a team that wins things."

Just how much of an unsettling effect the saga had remains to be seen but Milan's, and indeed Kaka's performance this weekend against Bologna's water-tight defence could be a very helpful indicator.

To really put transfer talk to bed, Kaka and Milan will need to inflict a first defeat on Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, unbeaten in nine Serie A matches since taking over the reins at the beginning of November.

AC Milan lost over Kaka saga

ROME (AFP) – AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted that his club don't know what to do over Manchester City's reported 100 million euro bid for Brazilian star Kaka.

The Italian club have given Kaka and his representatives permission to talk to City while publically claiming they have not accepted any bid.

Yet on Saturday club president and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi claimed that with the figures allegedly on the table they could not stand in Kaka's way if he wants to leave.

And now Galliani has admitted Milan simply don't know which way to turn.

"The problem right now is knowing what to do, for the moment nothing has been decided," said Galliani, who received calls from fans to take Kaka's place on a plane to Manchester.

Fans protested against the proposed sale of Kaka during and after Saturday night's somewhat fortunate 1-0 home win over Fiorentina at the San Siro.

One banner read: "Drunk on desire for Kaka", with another saying: "The heart has no price, stay with those who love you Ricky (Kaka's nickname)."

There was a banner mocking a credit card company advert claiming that while Samuel Eto'o (80 million euros), Cristian Ronaldo (120 million) and Lionel Messi (180 million) all had price-tags, Kaka is "priceless."

Another vented anger at the Milan hierarchy proclaiming simply: "shame, shame!"

But the Milan vice-president is trying to distance himself and the club from culpability should the deal eventually go through.

"Neither Milan nor Kaka have signed anything with Manchester City and hence he is still a Milan player," added Galliani.

"I have the same feelings as the fans, I'm a Milan fan but you have to try to balance sentiment against reason."

Galliani then turned his attentions to City and other clubs owned by billionaires capable of turning the transfer market upside down.

"I think a club should exist on its own resources and not from the charity of a magnate who spends stratospheric figures season after season because when one day this magnate doesn't want to or can't continue doing this, well I don't know what could happen then."

In the case that Kaka does leave, Galliani admitted it will be impossible to replace him.

"Signing a second rate player would be useless but there aren't any players of Kaka's ability hence if Kaka does have to leave we will simply be without Kaka, but Kaka hasn't gone."

Kaka didn't have a decisive impact on the game Saturday night despite creating a buzz in the crowd with some purposeful runs during the first period.

Afterwards coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted he too was unsure of where things stood but was hopeful the 26-year-old former World Player of the Year would stay.

"Kaka is important for us, I hope he stays in red and black," he said. "The situation is evolving, still anything could happen because there has been a big offer for a great player.

"I think time is still needed to evaluate everything. Tonight was a very positive one for him, the whole crowd should him how much they love him.

"From a personal, human point of view I've spent seven years with this guy and if he goes I'll be a bit sad.

"But from a professional standpoint things are different because Kaka is still a Milan player, I feel honoured to coach him, to have coached him and now we'll see if something changes."
